Part of Walton's vision became reality when Paradise Key was designated a Florida Water Star community by the St. Johns River Water Management District for low water usage and low maintenance, also a crucial element for the Smart Home. "I've been with HGTV for more than 18 years, and this is the first time I've had a project in a place I once lived," he said. Toilets that feature programmable built in seat warmers, with a suite of other features. Layton also was able to build the home in about two-thirds of the time it would usually take. In addition, there are special touches such as a sensor on an automated awning over the windows in the children's room that activates the awning if the sun hits those windows. The kitchen has an induction cooktop that doesn't heat up until a pan touches its surface, and the pan can be placed anywhere on the top, not just in certain spots where burners would be in a conventional cooktop.
